The Rise of the Great Powers / Imperial Struggle (Book & Game, #3)

Back to the book & game pairings to educate & entertain about a certain historical topic! Today, we’re looking at the power struggles of the 18th century with Britain and France occupying center stage, often called the Second Hundred Years’ War. Our book & game for this topic are The Rise of the Great Powers 1648—1815 (Derek McKay/H.M. Scott) and Imperial Struggle (Ananda Gupta/Jason Matthews, GMT Games).

Half-Year Gaming Report, 2022

Another year is already half-way over! Can you believe it? …I guess with everything that’s happened since January 1 (Pandemic! War! Inflation! Supreme Court!) I should be surprised we haven’t filled the history books for three years yet. In these historic times, it’s nice to take on different perspectives, learn from the past or at least get away from the present with the tried-and-true method of (historical) board gaming. Most Anticipated Historical Board Games 2020

Happy new year everyone! Before I get into my most anticipated historical board games likely to be released this year, let me remind you: The best game you’ll have played at the end of this year is likely to be one that sits on your shelf already – be that one you know and love, or one that has not been lucky enough yet to be actually played by you after you got it. That being said, here are some upcoming titles which I am at least seriously considering to acquire. As all of them are set in human history, they are ordered from most ancient to most recent. Most Anticipated Historical Board Games of 2019

A new year, new games! …although most of us have already a hard time playing the games that are out there already as much as we’d like and these games would deserve. However, I know that you like shiny new pieces of cardboard and wood. And so, without further ado, here are a few games scheduled to be released this year which look really good to me. As they all have a historical theme, I’ve ordered them from the most ancient to the most recent.

Most Anticipated Historical Board Games of 2018

2017 is over. It’s been a good year for board gaming. I have reasons to believe, however, that 2018 will be just as satisfying – the good games we play already stay with us, and then there might be this or that new worthy addition. Here are some games to be released in 2018 on which I’ll keep an eye. Since they all have a historical theme, I’ll order them from most ancient to most recent. Here we go:
